  2. WashPo – Luge Yourself.  A longtime fan wanted to know what a luge run really felt like. There was only one way to find out.
  3. QZ – Google is using 46 billion data points to predict the medical outcomes of hospital patients While the results have not been independently validated, Google claims vast improvements over traditional models used today for predicting medical outcomes. Its biggest claim is the ability to predict patient deaths 24-48 hours before current methods, which could allow time for doctors to administer life-saving procedures.
  4. FastCo – The Norwegian Secret To Enjoying A Long Winter.  Whether you believe Punxsutawney Phil or not, given the last few weeks, this seemed like helpful advice.
  5. CNBC – United refused to let an emotional support peacock board plane.  What happens when someone tries to take things too far…


  1. Stratechery – Amazon HealthThe combined announcement this week out of Amazon, JP Morgan and Berkshire Hathaway may have interesting longer-term implication in the healthcare space.  Here is one thoughtful take on it.
  2. MCC – Chris Mayer on 100-Baggers This is a little old, but I just stumbled across it.  Chris Mayer spoke about what he learned studying 100-Baggers, the 365 stocks returning at least 100x between 1962-2014.
  3. KKR – Outlook for 2018.  KKR’s asset allocation team with their thoughtful look at the global investment markets currently.
  4. Bloomberg – What’s Going to Happen to Ikea Founder’s Billions? – Credit JC – The world’s 8th-biggest fortune and its unique holding structure will keep the company outside of family control.
