Let’s Welcome Lord Stanley’s Cup to Nashville

The Nashville Predators wrapped up the Western Conference Championship – and are on to face an exhausted Pittsburgh Penguin team (who finally closed down their series in a 7 game nail-biter that went to double overtime last night).  The Preds are getting some solid national press in Philly (The epicenter of the hockey world is now … Nashville?) and New York (From Hockey 101 to a Ph.D. in Nashville)

Business/Economics:

  1. NYT – The Rise of the Fat Start-Up
  2. Coveteur – Why Herschel Was Always Going to be a Runaway Success  Herschel, a bag and travel accessories brand that was launched just seven years ago in Vancouver (where the company is still based), has managed to do what every other fashion and retail company dreams of: They’ve become a no-holds-barred, runaway success.
  3. Bloomberg – The Barbarians Are at Etsy’s Hand-Hewn, Responsibly Sourced Gates.  The ur-Brooklyn online craft marketplace is under pressure to start acting more like a conventional, shareholder-focused company.
  4. WSJ – Bond Buyers Forgive and Forget, Flock Back to Online Lenders’ Debt.  Online lenders have scrambled to make their credits more attractive to investors by overhauling their lending criteria and shortening loan terms.
  5. CIO – Redefining the Role of Hedge Funds.  Some of the funds are changing their strategic approach or at least becoming slightly more transparent.

Culture/Tech/Science:

  1. TheStar – At $600 each, this meal was worth every cent.  Noma’s Mexican pop-up is one in a string from world famous chef René Redzepi.
